Abstract
Although research has shown the cause of autistic disorder to be multifactoral, direct and indirect lines of evidence suggest that certain neurochemical systems are of particular relevance to the pathophysiology and treatment of autism. Preliminary evidence suggests that drugs that increase serotonin neurotransmission may be useful in reducing interfering repetitive behavior and aggression and in improving social relatedness in some children and adults.
