Envelhecer activo, envelhecer saudável : o grande desafio

Abstract

O crescimento da esperança de vida nas idades mais avançadas representa um importante desafio para as políticas de saúde e de protecção social. A questão tem sido colocada ao nível do crescimento das necessidades em cuidados sociais e de saúde. O paradigma do envelhecimento activo, proposto pela OMS, tem vindo a proporcionar uma reflexão enriquecedora ao inverter os princípios em que assenta o debate : se vamos viver mais tempo então vamos investir ao longo da vida no sentido de minimizar os impactos negativos da maior longevidade.The growth of life expectancy in older ages represents an important challenge for health and social protection public policies. The question has been placed to the level of the growth of needs in social care and health. The paradigm of Active Aging, a policy framework proposed by WHO, has provided an interesting contribution by an innovative conceptual approach: if we will live more time then we must invest through the life course in order to minimize the negative impacts of the longer life.
