Abstract

Luteolin was isolated as a lipase inhibitor from Cassia mimosoides var. nomame. During an in- vestigation on the inhibitory effects of the other related flavonoids on lipase, flavonols (kaem- pferol, myricetin and quercetin) exhibited activ- ity comparable to that of luteolin, while their glycosides, flavanones and flavan-3-ols showed negligible activity. The inhibitory activity on lipase was also shown by quercitrin gallate, epigallocatechin gallate, isoflavones and chalcones.
