Abstract

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) is a drug/fatty acid-activated trans cription factor involved in the starvation response, and is thus relevant to the ketogenic diet (KD). This article summarizes research indicating the role of PPARα in central and peripheral nervous system function with particular reference to downstream targets relevant to anticonvulsant action. © 2008 International League Against Epilepsy.
