Abstract

Objectives: describing the prevalence of the causes of infertility in females using the "Profamilia Fertil" programme in Cali, Colombia, and their follow-up time. Materials and methods: this was a cross-sectional study. Clinical histories were used for collecting the data. Results: 1,389 females were studied from 2002 to 2004. The most frequently found causative factor was the peritoneal tube (49.4%); 60% of these attended the programme seeking the re-channelling of their tubes due to previous tube occlusion. 63% of the women only consulted once; 19.3% of them returned more than once for a follow-up consultation. Conclusion: the peritoneal tube factor predominated in this institution, being related to tube obstruction following surgical sterilisation.
