CO2 Emission, Energy Consumption, and Economic Growth in Latin America

Abstract

Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil are the only three developing countries equipped with nuclear energy capabilities in Latin America. This paper explores the impact of urbanization, nuclear energy consumption, and thermal power consumption on carbon dioxide emissions (CO2), and thus the broader environment. The results show that these countries do not conform to the EKC model; energy consumption consistently increases CO2 emissions, and urbanization only has a negative influence on CO2 emissions in the long run. We conclude with recommendations for policymakers of these countries.
