Abstract
The results of modification of industrial steels processed by pulsed plasma streams with an energy density of incident plasma in the range of 10-30 J/cm2, ion energy up to 2 keV, plasma density (1-3)×1014 cm-3 and pulse length 2-5 μs are presented in this paper. The structure and properties of modified surface layers have been investigated. Formation of austenite, carbides and nitrides in modified fine-grained surface layer with a depth of up to 30 μm, sufficient increasing of wear resistance by 7-20 times and microhardness increasing by 2-5 times depending on the kind of material, were observed as a result of plasma processing.
