Abstract

A 71-year-old man was referred to our hospital due to an abnormal shadow in the left upper lung on chest X-ray. Chest X-ray and chest CT scan showed a nodular shadow without any symptoms. The patient was diagnosed as pulmonary aspergillosis due to the presense of aspergillus species that were detected in the bronchialalveolar lavage fluid. After oral itoraconazole was administered for 2 months a nodular shadow was not changed. Surgical resection was performed. Histological examination revealed a fungus ball in the ectatic bronchus. This is compatible with primary pulmonary aspergilloma, that appeared as an isolated nodular shadow.
