Eco-friendly synthesis of Carbon Quantum Dots from rice husk and their potential applications in dicot plants

Abstract

Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) were synthesized from organic precursors, specifically rice husks, using a simple low-temperature hydrothermal process. This process did not involve surface passivation agents, oxidizing agents, or inorganic salts. Advanced analytical techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), photoluminescence (PL), photoluminescence excitation (PLE), and Commission Internationale de l'Éclairage (CIE) were employed to investigate the structure, particle size, and optical properties of the CQDs. The positive effects of CQDs on the growth and development of green bean sprouts, morning glory, and mustard greens are detected in preliminary application trials. These findings will be the useful orientation for the application of CQDs in different crops.
