Sociocritique de la traduction. Un corpus québécois

Abstract

Traditionnellement prescriptifs, les écrits sur la traduction cherchent en grande partie à éclairer le praticien sur la manière de traduire. À partir de l’hypothèse suivante : la configuration du système littéraire propre à un état de société impose des contraintes sur le choix des oeuvres que l’on traduit et sur la manière de les traduire, on étudiera un corpus de pièces de théâtre traduites au Québec. On montrera comment l’acceptabilité littéraire des textes étrangers dans un nouvel environnement socioculturel est tributaire de la fonction que ces textes sont appelés à remplir dans le « polysystème » de la littérature d’accueil.Traditionally prescriptive, texts about translation are largely an attempt to guide translators on the way in which they should translate. Based on the hypothesis that the configuration of a literary system belonging to a state of society imposes constraints on the choice of works translated and on the way they are translated, this essay analyzes a body of plays translated in Quebec. It shows how the literary acceptance of foreign literary texts in a new sociocultural environment derives from the function that these texts are called upon to fulfill in the polysystem of the host literature.
