Spectra and damping of surface plasmon-polaritons (SPPs) in double graphene layer structures are studied theoretically. The SPPs in those structures exhibit a remarkable voltage tunability of velocity and damping, inherent to gated graphene. The spatial dispersion of conductivity significantly augments the free path and cutoff frequency of SPPs. It is also pointed out to the effect of photon-assisted interlayer tunneling, which leads to a substantial decrease in SPP damping. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
