Abstract

The sequence of a novel cDNA clone, Aiv-1, for tomato acid invertase was similar to that of TIVl (Klann et al. 1992) for the enzyme except for a unique intron-like insertion. It is considered that Aiv-1 is derived from either an alternatively spliced mRNA for an isozyme or a pre-mRNA of TIVl.Acid invertase (-fructosidase, EC 3.2.1.26), which hydrolyzes sucrose, plays an important role in the hexose accumulation during fruit ripening in tomato, Lycxypersicon esculentum, (Yelle et al. 1991). Recently, an acid invertase cDNA from tomato fruit, TIVl, has been cloned and sequenced (Klann et al. 1992). We present here the nucleotide sequence of another tomato acid invertase cDNA. © 1992, The Genetics Society of Japan. All rights reserved.
