Abstract

(Figure Presented) Along came a spider... Spider silk is a fascinating biomaterial owing to its strength, extensibility, and toughness per unit weight which is unrivaled by manmade fibers. The spinning of spider silk corresponds to a transition from a liquid phase to a solid thread. The underlying mechanism of this transition has been investigated using a recombinantly produced spider silk protein. © 2007 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA.
