Abstract

This article analyzes different ways Brazilian students experience their condition of studying and working simultaneously, an emblematic situation among youth in Brazil. Based on studies on the connections between school and work, it presents data from a qualitative research carried out with 32 young people from low-income groups in the Metropolitan Area of São Paulo. The results show multiple and complex factors involved in this combination, stressing variations such as the stage of life and schooling.
