Abstract

This resaerch is aimed to know for the history of the transmigration rebirth and the early life of the economic social of transmigrants in Desa Sungai Tenang, Nagari Kunangan Parik Rantang, Kamang Baru Subdistrict, Sijunjung District, West Sumatra. The method uses historical method, there are four steps to historical methods: (1) Heuristic; (2) Source Criticism; (3) Interpretation; (4) Historiography. The sources used are transmigration letter documents, books, journals, articles, interviews and observations. The research revealed the transmigrants in Desa Sungai Tenang were included in the new pattern of self-initiated transmigrants. The life of transmigrants in 1973-1980 or after seven years of its arrival that there were still having economic difficulties. It's completely different from the extremely developed social conditions of the transmigrant communities or with the local indigenous communities where the Minangkabau folks live. Transmigrants still maintained their Javanese customs and traditions, and also still keep respecting local customs and traditions (Minangkabau).
