Abstract

When the ultrastructure of human sebaceous glands is compared with that of other mammals, especially other primates, the disposition and form of the cytoplasmic organelles vary according to the genus and even species though the basic complement of organelles does not vary. Some of these characteristic morphologic endpoints can be useful in the study of the relation between cytoplasmic organelles and lipid secretion. The ultrastructural characteristics in man and other primates are presented and discussed.
