Abstract

A hollow-core Bragg terahertz waveguide with a discontinuous helical support structure is investigated. Finite element analysis is employed to analyze its mechanical and optical properties, revealing that discontinuous support structure can still effectively maintain its mechanical performance, and reducing the support length can effectively decrease the transmission loss of the fiber. A hollow-core fiber with a discontinuous helical support structure is fabricated using 3D printing technology, and its transmission performance is tested. It shows low-loss transmission of approximately 0.517 dB/m in the frequency range of 0.65–0.8 THz, and the transmission loss at 0.796 THz is as low as 0.127 dB/m.
