Abstract

An alternative description of tilted rotation, observed in deformed nuclei, is presented using the projected shell model approach. It is shown that a strong configuration mixing among the projected states is responsible for the appearance of the tilted bands near to, but slightly above, the yrast line in even-even tungsten isotopes. Various tilted bands in [Formula Presented] are also predicted. © 1998 The American Physical Society.
