Growth of Edamame (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) Plants on Coffee Peel Compost and Rice Straw Mulch

Abstract

Edamame is a vegetable soybean that originated in Japan, consumed as a vegetable or snack. Edamame has opportunities as an export commodity that can increase the country's foreign exchange, but edamame production in Indonesia is still very low. In increasing Edamame Production, one thing that greatly affects it is the availability of nutrients, namely by applying compost, coffee husks, and rice straw mulch. This research was carried out on Jalan Harmonika baru, Padang bulan Selayang II, Medan Selayang District, Medan, with a place height of ±25 meters above the surface of the lau, starting from May-August 2024. This study uses a Factorial Group Random Design (RAK) consisting of 2 factors with 3 replicates. The first factor is the dose of coffee husk compost with 4 levels, namely 0, 10, 20, 30 tons/ha. The second factor is rice straw mulch with 4 treatment levels, namely 0, 5, 10 and 15 tons/ha. The application of coffee husk compost actually increased plant height, number of leaves, wet weight of the crown, wet weight of the roots, dry weight of the crown, dry weight of the roots. The application of rice straw mulch was real to increase plant height, and number of leaves, the interaction between coffee husk compost and rice straw mulch was not real on all parameters observed.
