Abstract

Does bibliometrics still adequately capture the impact of scientific publications? New sources have been established in which scientific communication also takes place. Are these sources capable of generating a faster and more comprehensive picture of scientific output? This article presents the aim, methods and possibilities of altmetrics and puts it into a context of bibliometrics and foresight related processes.
