Abstract

By 2025 India will be the leading country for such chronic illness as hypertension, cardio vascular diseases and diabetes mellitus. There is a high level of prevalence of non-communicable diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), hypertension, diabetes, mental problems, injuries, etc. Organ transplantation is evolving very fast as a mode of treatment for end-stage diseases. Every week, many people die waiting for an organ transplant. These lives could be saved by improving knowledge of organ donation and recovery among health team members and lay public alike. Nurses are in a unique position to advocate for donation and to educate their patients on the importance of being an organ donor.
