Abstract

The conceptions of growth and growth creation are constantly pressing issues. What more seldom is emphasized is the apparent confusion about what is meant by growth and how growth strategies are conceptualized in terms of the critical success factors (CSFs) that drive them. This paper reports on a comparative quasi-experiment conducted in order to deepen our understanding about growth, CSFs, the relationship between them and how this is perceived. The results offer practical implications for business management, education and research. Results show that prior experience has an impact on the perception of growth. Results also show that CSFs are context specific and vary across the stages in the life cycle of a firm.
