Abstract

Metronidazole is a nitroimidazole antibiotic that is active almost exclusively against anaerobic organisms. It is of primary value in obstetrics and gynecology for treatment of trichomonas vaginitis and bacterial vaginosis. It also may be used in combination with other agents, such as an aminoglycoside, for treatment of polymicrobial soft tissue pelvic infections.
