Abstract
The article provides an overview of the impact of digital technologies and the digitization of analog materials on music and musicology. After defining the foundations of musicological research and the technological and legal issues surrounding digitization and digital production of music and music materials, the article also addresses implications for the music industry, the archiving of digital music, copyright law, music pedagogy, and music appreciation.
