Abstract

Family factors appear to be of importance in Increasing the vulnerability to sulcidal behavhr. WHh regard to family factors şelf destructive behavior is signiflcantly assodated with spedfic aspects of family dysfunction.Compared to normal subjects suicidal subjects report poorer familial relationships and receMng less support and affection. This study aimed to investigate how suidde attempters peroeived their famiKes and to compare the family functioning of suidde attempted and normal control subjects. 32 suidde attempted matched with 31 normal control a total of 63 subjects formed the study sample. Family functioning was assessed by using The Family Assessment Device. Problem SoMng, Communication, Behavior Control, and General Functioning dimensions significantly discriminated the two groups.
