Abstract

A case study in managing significant organizational change is presented. Radical change in the telecommunications industry demands new ways of doing business to remain competitive. After a presentation of the situation faced by an integrated telecommunications service provider, prechange organizational conditions are summarized to demonstrate the imperative for restructuring the organization. Then a change initiative strategy (CIS) is described, followed by a report on implementation actions and success achieved to date. Primary focus of the article is on the need for a well-planned and managed change strategy that is simple and recognizes the foundational importance of leadership and partnering in managing productive, successful change.
