Abstract

Black Cumin (Nigella sativa L.) contains unsaturated essential fatty acids that rejuvenate skin cells and delay the aging process. It contains tocopherol and polyphenols, which are phenolic compounds that act as antioxidants and ward off free radicals. This study formulates a cream body scrub containing Black Cumin flour (Nigella sativa L.) with variations of Triethanolamine concentration. It also examines the physical stability of each formula. Black cumin flour is made from dried black cumin seeds blended and sieved with a 30/40 mesh. It is then formulated into a Black Cumin cream scrub using a variation of Triethanolamine 2%, 3%, and 4% concentration. The three formulas were tested for physical stability before and after storage was accelerated using a climatic chamber in organoleptic, dispersal power, homogeneity, pH, and hedonics. The results show that the triethanolamine 2% does not meet the physical quality requirements for organoleptic, dispersal, and hedonic testing. Triethanolamine 3% meets almost all requirements of good physical quality except the dispersal and pH testing. Triethanolamine 4% does not meet physical quality requirements for organoleptic, pH, dispersal, and hedonic testing. Therefore, black cumin can be formulated into a cream scrub preparation with the best results using a triethanolamine 3% emulgator. Keywords:
