Abstract

To show the real behaviour of the ionization phenomena on towers connected to a malt grid, it is necessary to find a method for modeling their components. The transmission line method can be applied for this purpose and a quick response to a lightning stroke affecting several towers connected to a malt grid can be obtained. This study put a particular emphasis on the propagation of the lightning current from the striking point through various arms of the tower to the malt grid. The currents and voltages interacting on the vertical columns of the towers and on different points arbitrarily chosen on the malt grid are simulated. The main advantage of this method is that it shows the transient response of the pylon-malt grid and it was applied on a large portion of a transmission.
