Cultural heritage at work for economy and society

Abstract

The chapter presents research on three innovative models for managing cultural heritage in several European countries. To highlight the differences and the potential of the selected approaches, the models have been linked to different phases in the integrated conservation process. The carried-out research aimed at identifying the general benefits produced by preventive conservation, even if certain models are only targeting one of the phases. On the other hand, the models working on the programme phase can improve the whole process, enhancing the vision and the quality of the practices. The integration of the models could be turned into some simple rules to make investments in heritage conservation more effective and sustainable in the long run, fostering engagement, capacity-building and knowledge dissemination as relevant benefits for the economy and society.
