Abstract

Results of a cytological survey of Hippocrepis comosa are reported and the geographical and ecological distribution of the three chromosome races, two of which occur in Britain, is described. Reasons for the restricted distribution of the diploid race are proposed and the probable post‐glacial history of both British races is discussed. This intraspecific polyploidy is related to the evolution of a polyploid complex. Copyright © 1972, Wiley Blackwell. All rights reserved
