Abstract

Consumers are also responsible of food safety and reduction in disease outbreaks due to food poisoning. The objective of the study was to determine the level of knowledge, attitude and behavior regarding food safety among college students by applying a survey to 97 senior students. Information was analyzed by Chi-square. Food safety was a life general topic of medium concern among other life topics; however, innocuousness of foods was taken as the most important trait in food and pointing out that meat, milk and milk products had the higher risk of causing diseases. Formal college education, internet, and specialized books were the main sources of information on food safety. It was concluded that extension to consumers of good practices on food safety, is of high concern to the animal industry to diminish the fall in the rate of consumption of animal products.
