Abstract

The corrosion inhibition effect of the methanolic extract of Eucalyptus globulus leaves as an eco-friendly green inhibitor for corrosion control of carbon steel in 1 M H2SO4 solution was studied using weight loss measurements and different electrochemical methods. It was found that E. globulus extract acts as a strong inhibitor. Results showed that this compound acts as a mixed-type inhibitor. As the inhibitor concentration increased, the charge transfer resistance of carbon steel increased and double layer capacitance decreased. The results of weight loss measurements were in good agreement with other electrochemical methods results. It was found that this green inhibitor acts through adsorption on the metal surface. In addition, adsorption obeys the Langmuir isotherm.
