Abstract
This is the first section of a two-part contribution about the DGI Initiative for information literacy. The article examines the situation, the measures and the effects of the initiative. The starting points are the recommendations of the DGI's memorandum on the promotion of information literacy in the education sector (2008) and the positionpaper: Media and information literacy- A lways with libraries and information facilities! of the Federal Association of German Library and Information Associations (BID).
