Abstract

Globalization has produced important changes in the way organizations act, since it has generated an increasingly competitive environment, in which the development of companies is based on knowledge, an intangible resource that generates capitals of transcendence such as human and society, among others. The objective is to analyze the relationship between the culture of intellectual property on intangible assets and competitiveness in rural family businesses. The methodology of the study was directed under a statistical empiricist approach with a convenience sample of 70 representative companies in the central and southern area of Tamaulipas, Mexico, through a Structural Equation Model based on Partial Least Squares, to empirically support the hypothesis of the Theory of Resources and Capacities. In relation to the results obtained, it can be seen that rural businesses, by formalizing their constitutive features as a family business, have a high positive effect on the orientation towards intellectual property and this has a direct positive effect on competitiveness. In conclusion, intangible assets are relevant factors directly related to competitiveness. However, in terms of sustainable development, this did not show a significant relationship with competitiveness
