Abstract

The research studies the evolution of tourist accommodation in the Priorat county during the first two decades of the 21st century as a result, among other things, of the appearance of digital platforms, such as Airbnb and Booking. The working hypothesis is that the tourist rental boom supposes a notable increase in terms of the supply of tourist accommodation in rural areas in recent years, causing tourist dwellings to compete with other traditional tourist accommodation establishments, such as hotels and campsites, but especially with rural tourism establishments. The work methodology combines the quantitative analysis of the offer with interviews with managers or owners of tourist accommodation. The results show a significant increase in the supply of tourist accommodation, coinciding with the emergence of tourist lodgings since 2015. This growth has been accompanied by the mar-keting carried out by digital accommodation platforms.
