Abstract

The infrared spectra from 4000–250 cm −1 and the laser Raman spectra of NOAsF 6 , NO 2 AsF 6 , N 2 F 3 AsF 6 , F 2 NOAsF 6 , NOSbF 6 , NO 2 SbF 6 , N 2 F 3 Sb 2 F 11 , and F 2 NOSb 2 F 11 are recorded. Eight of the nine fundamentals expected for the N 2 F 3 + cation can be observed and are tentatively assigned. The vibrational spectra of the MF 5 adducts are in agreement with an ionic formulation; however, the mutual exclusion rule for infrared and Raman active vibrations appears to be relaxed and one of the fundamentals v 5 [F 2g ] is split into a doublet in almost all cases.
