Abstract
Cleanness of paper machine operation has been transformed drastically due to deterioration of raw material quality and conversion to neutral condition. Main source of stain on the machine comes from un-wanted foreign materials contained in de-inked pulp, as its usage has tendency to increase. To maintain or even to improve machine runability and production, it is important to deal with materials causing unclean operation. In the past we have tried to identify un-wanted foreign materials in paper machine through chemical and biological analyses, and, at the same time, made a selection of proper chemicals to deal with these materials. Continued development of high-performance coagulant "REALIZER A Series" showed its effectiveness to hydrophobic pitch in recycled pulp. Retention aids effective on microscopic particles such as pulp fines and filler were developed as "REALIZER R Series" and "REXER FX Series". Combination of these chemicals called "AXISZ SYSTEM" reforms wet-end operation much cleaner environment, which has been recognized by a large number of paper machines. New generation of ASA sizing agent "REGSIS" which was put in the market last year requires less chemicals and thus contributes optimization of wet-end operation. In addition "CURECIDE SYSTEM" which controls micro biological problems, further reduces deposits in a paper machine. Both chemical and biological means of controls improve drastically paper machine as clean operation.
