Abstract

This policy essay examines the importance of the Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) in the current state of knowledge on the prevention of gang membership as of August 2013. It discusses the reason for gang prevention, as well as its benefits that include fewer victimization incidents. It also explores the nature of gang membership as a status, a social category, or identity.
