Abstract
Local institutions in the Rammang-Rammang Maros karst area effectively maintain cultural mechanisms within an adaptive system that incorporates conservation education and climate village programs to address climate change. Climate change presents a significant challenge in the Rammang-Rammang karst region, Maros. This research highlights how local institutions in Indonesia transmit knowledge and wisdom outside of formal education, which has proven to be highly effective in mitigating environmental damage caused by increasing human activity and needs. Nevertheless, conflicts over resources and external influences sometimes cause this adaptation knowledge, embedded in local wisdom, to be overlooked. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method, using data collected through interviews, observations, and document reviews. The data analysis process involves several stages: data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the local wisdom embodied by social institutions through cultural and ecological adaptations helps maintain long-term equilibrium against climate change at a micro level. This equilibrium is strengthened by integrating traditional conservation knowledge systems (non-formal), climate village education mechanisms (informal), and science-based knowledge (formal) into daily social practices. Additionally, integrating scientific support and external scientific input, along with enhancing nature protection and community participation at both local and global levels, contributes to reducing high-risk vulnerabilities.
