Cultivating Reading Habits of Primary School Students in the United States

Abstract

Reading is not only a crucial academic skill, but also an essential life skill. Cultivating children's reading ability from an early age will benefit them throughout their lifetime. How does it cultivate reading habits and abilities among primary school students in the United States? We can explore six aspects: 1) reading aloud, 2) dialogic reading, 3) access, 4) choice, 5) high-success reading, and 6) time. These reading methods are widely applied in schools, families, and society, forming a relatively independent and interconnected reading system. Although these reading elements are only in the initial stage of development, they play a crucial role in fostering children's reading habits and enhancing their reading skills. We can further explore universal and practical methods based on these six elements, beginning with children, to ensure that reading becomes more than just a means of acquiring knowledge, but also a lifelong habit that enhances people's cultural literacy.
