Abstract
The special importance of water and the many problems that its current use causes has led to increasingly intense and widespread concerns of international bodies. Freshwater is an exhausting and vulnerable resource essential to sustain life, development and the environment. Water development and management must be based on the principle of participation, involving consumers, planners and decision-makers at all levels. Integrated water resource management is a process that promotes coordinated development and management of water, land and related resources to achieve maximum growth in economic outcomes and social status in a fair way without compromising the sustainability of vital ecosystems.
