Distribución de los bosques de Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco en México

Abstract

Pseudotsuga menziesii is a boreal species that is naturally distributed in North America. In Mexico it is listedin NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010 in the category "subject to special protection", its populations are small anddiscontinuous, and its areas are considered of High Conservation Value. To determine its distribution andsurface area, we processed the Land Use and Vegetation Charts Series VI scale 1:250000 (nationalcontinuum), and that of the state of Chihuahua scale 1:50000 and considered maps and geographiccoordinates reported in various research works. In addition, information was obtained on the environmentalconditions where Pseudotsuga menziesii thrives; the results show that this species is distributed in 14 Stateswith approximately 57,000 ha and 98.5% of its populations are concentrated in the northern states ofChihuahua, Coahuila, Durango and Nuevo León; its communities develop in the high parts of the SierraMadre Oriental, Sierra Madre Occidental and Eje Neovolcanico in cold and humid climates with altitudesthat fluctuate from 2,200 to 3,400 m; it coexists mainly with species of the genus Pinus, Quercus, Abies,Populus, Picea, Arbutus and Cupressus; and its populations are being affected by natural and anthropogenicfactors. This study will allow a better management of these forests.
