Abstract

Density is an intrinsic property of rock that denotes the relationship between its mass and unit volume. Its use as an index property or as an independent variable to predict other rock properties is difficult because density values can be affected by temperature, pressure, and the amount and type of fluid saturation. Also, as discussed later, changes in mineralogy and determination methods can have significant effects on density values for what appear to be similar types of rock. -Authors
