Abstract
In the following paper basic aspects for a holistic assessment of traffic infrastructure projects are elucidated. Starting with general aspects, specific features and aims, the times and possibilities of a holistic assessment, as well as different aspects of an assessment concerning the placing are explained. In addition, a comparison between existing assessment systems in structural engineering and their boundary conditions is made. An overview of the current research projects follows. Special questions concerning the holistic assessment of traffic infrastructure, e.g. inexactness for a given period, assessment methods for "risks for the local environment", and the holistic public participation, conclude this paper with examples.
