Abstract
The article explores the British and Foreign Anti-Slavery Society's attempts in the 1870s and 1880s to stop the Brazilian government's 'scheme' to bring Chinese workers to the country. Th ese eff orts indicate that the question of slavery extrapolated national boundaries and confi rms that Britain acted directly against Brazilian slavery until its fi nal moments.
