Abstract

This book discusses the geological factors that influence the location, design, construction and maintenance of engineering works, and draws upon a broad range of geological disciplines: petrology, sedimentology, structural geology, geomorphology and stratigraphy. Accordingly, the first three chapters cover these fundamental disciplines, considering them from an engineering point of view. The following two chapters are concerned with hydrogeology, soil mechanics and rock mechanics. Chapters 6 to 9 deal with the applications of engineering geology - construction materials, site investigations, planning and construction. -from Publisher
