Abstract

The following article discusses the differences between backpackers and mass tourists. Its objective is to describe the nature of backpacking trips and to present the dependencies between the course of a trip, the reasons for taking the trip and the nationality of the respondents. The study is based on the results of a survey carried out among backpackers from Israel, Japan, Poland and Germany. Well-defined differences were revealed by the responses given by the Israeli and Japanese backpackers. © University of Warsaw - Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies.
