Abstract
For many years, domestic violence was justified from the perspective of culture, i.e. in different societies, aggression towards women was allowed, their rights were violated and they were not considered victims because acts of violence were normalized. The research objective was to evaluate the scientific production on domestic violence and culture, which was carried out in the most representative databases Scopus and Web of Science. The documentary review method was used, based on a search for domestic violence and culture. The results showed that domestic violence is traditionally justified by the imposition of the patriarchal figure, who exercised his role through unjustified aggression. Likewise, for a long time, there was inequality in the exercise of women’s rights and this injustice was allowed to continue in the home. Similarly, there is research that does not justify aggression against women in modern times and specifies that all acts of domestic violence should be punished. It was concluded that it is important to know the conception of domestic violence and culture to establish the need to disseminate the rights that women and members of the household have. In the same vein, there is no justification for sustaining or allowing the continuation of domestic violence, since it is an attack on human dignity.
