Abstract

This study investigates how a magnetic field affects the α/γ transformation in FeCo alloys, particularly its entropy of transformation. Pure Fe, Fe9.5 at% Co alloy and Fe19.2 at% Co alloy were analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry in a magnetic field. Both the latent heat and the α/γ transformation entropy for pure Fe and FeCo alloys decreased in a magnetic field. These reductions were more pronounced as the Co concentration increased and as the magnetic field strength increased. © 2013 The Japan Institute of Light Metals.
