Abstract
Advances in biology are contributing increasingly to the progress of insect pest control. The trend is characterized, in particular, by the systematic quest for procedures which involve smaller inputs of chemical and physical energy by man to achieve stated objectives in practical control. The recognition, selection, and exploitation of biological circumstances susceptible of procuring means to influence optimally the demography of noxious organisms calls for an ecologically‐based approach to pest problems, of the kind outlined and discussed here. Simple models are derived to illustrate the method in concept and application. Copyright © 1967, Wiley Blackwell. All rights reserved
